The poster protests against Malcolm Fraser's proposed abolition of the Tertiary Education Assistance Scheme (TEAS), established by Gough Whitlam, and later replaced by Austudy and then Youth Allowance. Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard was the Education Vice-President of the Australian Union of Students (AUS) in 1982, while studying at the University of Melbourne, and was elected President of AUS later that year.
