Luba Lukova: A Visual Voice for Social Justice - Poster Artist 

Luba Lukova, a Bulgarian-American artist, is renowned for her powerful and minimalist poster designs that address pressing social issues. Early Life and Education

Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in 1960, Lukova developed a passion for art from a young age. She attended the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, where she received a master's degree in graphic design. Her early work was influenced by the vibrant artistic scene in Bulgaria, which was undergoing significant social and political changes during the late 20th century.  

Immigration to the United States

In 1991, Lukova immigrated to the United States, where she quickly established herself as a prominent figure in the American design scene. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Denver Art Museum, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France.  

A Focus on Social Justice

Lukova's artistic practice is deeply rooted in her commitment to social justice. Her posters often address issues such as human rights, environmental protection, and political corruption. She uses her art as a platform to raise awareness, provoke thought, and inspire action.  

One of Lukova's most celebrated series is "Social Justice," a collection of twelve posters that explore themes of peace, censorship, immigration, ecology, hunger, and corruption. Each poster features a simple, yet powerful image, accompanied by a concise message. The minimalist aesthetic of these works allows the viewer to focus on the core message, making a lasting impact.
