On October 25, 1982, an article appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald entitled "The threat to Oxford Street" by architect John Haskell, followed by a letter to the editor entitled "SOS (Save Oxford Street)", both calling for consideration of the street's unique architecture during a period of redevelopment.
