Right To March Dance , 1978, by Poster Artist, Bridget Bogart (Aust., 1955-2008).
Colour screenprint, 50.6 x 76.2cm. Minor foxing or stains to margins. Linen-backed.
Text continues "Balmain Town Hall, Fri. Dec. 1st. Smash Bjelke's ban. Defend the right to organise. Proceeds to Qld bail funds. $3. Kamakazi Kidz. Mental Az Anything." Held in NGA.
In 1978, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, then-Premier of Queensland, "banned all street marches, leading to violent clashes between police and protesters." Tensions rose as the year progressed, and the biggest protest march was held in December, "when 346 people were arrested and packed like sardines into cells, often being denied a lawyer." Ref: The Australian, 1.1.2009.
