Pig Iron Bob Dead At Last [Prime Minister Robert Menzies] , 1978, by Poster Artist, Chips Mackinolty (Aust., b.1954).
Colour screenprint, "Earthworks Poster Collective" logo in image lower left, 75.7 x 50.1cm. Slight foxing to upper portion of image.
Text continues "Obscene imperialist rites for militarist, witch-hunter. Only the ruling class mourns its dead hero." The background text relates to Menzies' political career. Held in MAAS.
In 1938 while Robert Menzies (1894-1978) was Attorney General, he was given the nickname of "Pig Iron Bob" due to an industrial dispute [the Dalfram Dispute] with wharf workers who refused to load ships with scrap iron being sold to Japan, believing it would be used to make weapons to attack Australia. Ref: Roach, Menzies and Pig Iron for Japan, 1993; Wiki.
